1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Flippy ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the App. Our Privacy Policy explains what data the App handles and is part of these terms.

2. Description of Service

Flippy is a PDF and EPUB reader for Android and iOS, and a website at flippypdf.com, that lets you import, read, and annotate documents with realistic page-flip animations. The App has free features and paid features. Buying on the website is covered in Section 6A.

Free for everyone: reading and page flipping, scroll mode, highlights (two colors) and bookmarks (five per book), notes and drawings, search, automatic table of contents, the in-app dictionary (Define) and My Words, Google sign-in with Cloud Sync, Help & FAQ including its question box, and a small monthly free sample of the paid read-aloud and AI features described in Section 3.

Paid (Premium and Pro): monthly allowances of natural-voice read-aloud minutes and AI uses, offline audio downloads, all highlight colors, and unlimited bookmarks, as described in Section 5.

3. Free Week and Free Sample

• Free week. For the first 7 days after you first install the App, every Premium feature is unlocked. No payment method, account, or sign-up is needed, nothing is charged, and it simply ends after 7 days. It is offered once per device.
• Free sample. After the free week, non-subscribers get a small monthly sample of natural-voice minutes and AI uses. When the sample minutes run out, read-aloud keeps going in your device's own built-in voice, which does not count against anything.
• Free allowances are provided at our discretion, are limited per device, and may be changed or withdrawn at any time without notice. The App uses a hashed device identifier (see the Privacy Policy) so that uninstalling and reinstalling does not reset them.

4. Subscriptions and Payments

Flippy offers optional auto-renewable subscription plans, purchased through the App Store or Google Play:

• Flippy Premium Monthly — billed monthly
• Flippy Premium Yearly — billed annually
• Flippy Pro Monthly — billed monthly (higher usage allowances)
• Flippy Pro Yearly — billed annually (higher usage allowances)

Subscription details:

• Prices are set per country and shown in your local currency by the store before you buy. Prices may differ between countries and may change; the price shown at purchase is the one you pay for that period.
• Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase.
• Subscriptions automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
• Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period at the cost of the chosen plan.
• You can manage and cancel your subscription in your account settings on the App Store or Google Play after purchase. Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription. After cancellation you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
• Free trials. If the store offers a free trial on a plan, nothing about it is automatic: you start it yourself from the subscribe screen, the store shows you the trial’s length, terms and price before you confirm, and if you cancel through the store before the trial ends you are not charged. If you do not cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the store starts the paid subscription. Trial eligibility is decided by the store and is usually one per account. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
• Refunds for subscriptions are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies; we cannot issue them directly.

5. Premium Features and Allowances

Premium and Pro subscribers get access to the following features, with monthly allowances that differ between the two tiers:

• AI Read-Aloud — natural-voice text-to-speech powered by OpenAI, including downloading chapters for offline listening
• AI Q&A, Summaries, and AI Explain — powered by Anthropic's Claude API, answering from your own documents (their text, and pictures of the pages involved so the AI can read charts and figures)
• Ask Aloud (Speak-to-PDF) — ask questions by voice and hear the answer; your speech is transcribed on your own device where possible, and otherwise by OpenAI. See the Privacy Policy for details
• Study Tools — AI-generated flashcards and quizzes from chapters you choose
• All highlight colors and unlimited bookmarks

Read-aloud minutes and AI uses draw on monthly allowances that reset each billing month and do not carry over. The current allowances for each tier are shown on the subscribe screen and in the App's Settings, and may change with reasonable notice. Allowances are not unlimited. To protect the service we also apply daily fair-use caps; normal personal use will not reach them.

Cloud Sync is not a paid feature. Signing in with Google and syncing your reading data is free for everyone (Section 7).

6. Top-Up Packs

You can buy one-time top-up packs of extra natural-voice minutes and AI uses, with or without a subscription, through the App Store or Google Play (Settings → Minutes & AI uses → Buy more).

• Top-ups are one-time purchases, not subscriptions. Nothing renews.
• Which packs are offered, and their prices, depend on your country and are shown by the store before you buy.
• A pack is credited to your balance after our server confirms the purchase with the store. This normally takes a moment; if it is delayed (for example, a pending payment), the credit appears once the store confirms it.
• Top-up minutes and uses never expire. They are used only after your free sample or monthly subscription allowance for that month is used up.
• A balance is tied to the device installation it was bought on. It survives a reinstall on the same device, but it cannot be transferred to another device, another Google or Apple account, or another person, and it has no cash value.
• "Restore" in the top-up screen re-reads your balance from our server; it cannot move a balance between devices.
• Top-up purchases are non-refundable except as required by law or by the refund policy of the App Store or Google Play. Refund requests go to the store, not to us. If the store refunds or reverses a purchase, we may remove the corresponding credit, and any minutes or uses already drawn from it are not restored.
• If you ask us to delete the server records tied to your installation (see the Privacy Policy), any unused top-up balance is forfeited.

6A. Buying on the Website (flippypdf.com)

After you sign in with Google on the Flippy website, you can buy website plans and packs there. They are separate from purchases made in the iPhone, iPad, and Android apps.

• Who sells them. Website purchases are sold and processed by Stripe as merchant of record, through Stripe's Managed Payments service (your receipt may say “Sold through Link”). Stripe handles the payment, any sales tax or VAT, and receipts. We never see your full card details.
• Plans. Flippy Premium and Flippy Pro, billed monthly or yearly. The price for your country is shown before you pay and includes any sales tax or VAT that applies. Stripe may show it in your local currency; your bank or Stripe may add a currency-conversion fee.
• No free trial on the website. The website has no free week, free sample, or free trial (Section 3 applies to the apps only). Without a plan, read-aloud on the website uses your browser's own voice, and the AI features need a plan.
• Automatic renewal. Plans renew automatically at the end of each period, at the price of your plan, until you cancel. We will tell you before a price change applies to your plan's renewal.
• Cancelling. Cancel at any time on the website under Settings → Premium → Manage subscription (Stripe's secure page), or from the link in your receipt email. After you cancel, you keep your plan until the end of the period you paid for; it then ends and is not renewed.
• Refunds. Payments are non-refundable, including for partly used periods, except where the law requires otherwise. If your country's consumer law gives you a right to cancel or to a refund (for example, in the European Union or the United Kingdom), nothing in these Terms limits that right. For a refund request or a billing problem, reply to your receipt email or write to flippypdf@gmail.com; refunds are issued through Stripe.
• Your plan follows your Google account on the website. A website plan works whenever you are signed in to the website with the same Google account. For now it does not unlock the iPhone, iPad, or Android apps, and an app-store subscription does not unlock the website.
• Allowances. Website plans have the same monthly read-aloud and AI allowances and fair-use limits as the matching app plan (Section 5), shared across every browser where you are signed in.
• Website packs. Extra-minute packs bought on the website are one-time purchases that never expire. They are added to the Google account you are signed in with, cannot be moved to the apps or to another account, and have no cash value. Section 6 otherwise applies, with Stripe in place of the app store.
• Chargebacks and payment disputes are handled by Stripe. If a payment is refunded or reversed, the plan or pack it paid for ends or is removed.

7. Cloud Sync and Your Account

Cloud Sync is optional and free. If you sign in with Google, your bookmarks, highlights, notes, reading position, collections, and reading statistics are stored in Google Firebase under your account and synced to your other devices. Your document files are never uploaded. You can sign out at any time, and you can delete your synced data and account record at any time with Delete Account & Data under Settings → Cloud Sync. You are responsible for keeping your Google account secure. We may delete synced data that belongs to an account that has been deleted at your request.

8. AI Accuracy

AI-generated content (answers, summaries, explanations, image captions, flashcards, quizzes, transcriptions, and the answers given in the Help & FAQ question box) is produced automatically and may contain errors or omissions. It is provided for convenience and general reference only. Verify important information against your document, and do not rely on AI output as professional, legal, medical, financial, or academic advice. Where an AI answer about the App itself differs from these Terms, the in-app FAQ, or the store listing, the written text prevails.

9. User Content

You retain all rights to the PDF and EPUB documents you import into the App. Flippy does not claim ownership of your content. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to access and use the documents you import, including the right to have their text read aloud or processed by the AI features. The App does not open DRM-protected books and must not be used to circumvent copy protection.

10. Age Requirement

Flippy is not directed at children under the age of 13, and you must be at least 13 years old to use the App. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle children's privacy.

11. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the App for any unlawful purpose
• Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
• Use the App to infringe on the intellectual property rights of others, or to remove or circumvent digital rights management or other copy protection
• Circumvent free allowances, usage limits, or purchase verification — for example by tampering with the App's requests to our servers, forging purchase receipts, or repeatedly reinstalling to obtain new allowances
• Send automated, scripted, or bulk requests to the read-aloud or AI services
• Interfere with or disrupt the App's services or servers

12. Intellectual Property

The App, including its design, code, graphics, and content (excluding user-imported documents), is the property of Flippy and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.

13. Third-Party Services

The App integrates with third-party services (OpenAI, Anthropic Claude API, Google Sign-In and Firebase, Cloudflare Workers, the cdnjs public CDN, dictionaryapi.dev, Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons, and the Apple App Store and Google Play billing systems) for certain features. Your use of these features is also subject to the respective third-party terms and privacy policies. See Flippy's Privacy Policy for details on what data is shared.

14. Apple App Store and Google Play Terms

iOS. If you downloaded the App from the Apple App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Standard EULA") also applies to your use of the App. We have not provided Apple with a custom license agreement, so the Standard EULA governs your license from Apple, and these Terms apply in addition to it; if the two conflict on a matter between you and Apple, the Standard EULA controls. Apple is not responsible for the App, its content, or its support, and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

Android. If you downloaded the App from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply to your purchase and use of the App.

15. Disclaimer of Warranties

The App is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components, or that read-aloud, AI, or sync services provided through third parties will always be available.

16. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Flippy shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of the App, and our total liability for any claim relating to the App will not exceed the amount you paid us for the App in the 12 months before the claim.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

18. Termination

We reserve the right to terminate or suspend access to the App or to its server-side services (read-aloud, AI, top-up balances, and sync) at our discretion, without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms or is harmful to other users or the App. You may stop using the App at any time; subscriptions must be canceled through the store.

19. Governing Law

These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law, without regard to conflict of law principles.
